Congressional Compromises ( Great Compromise)
The Great Compromise was in 1787, and was a debate on how many representatives each state should have in the new governments congress. The larger states wanted each state to have a different number of representatives based on population. This was called the Virginia Plan. The smaller states wanted to have the New Jersey Plan , and that was when they wanted the same number of representatives. Rodger Sherman came up with an idea about having an equal number of people for senate, and one representative for each 30,000 residents of the state.http://www.congressforkids.net/Constitution_greatcompromise.htm
Congressional Compromise ( 3/5 Compromise)
The 3/5 Compromise was about the Southern States wanting to count three slaves per every five people. It made it so the slaves had even more restrictions on rights. It lasted this way for over eighty years. In a few ways this was similar to the Great Compromise. They each were in 1787, we're separated in two groups, and Rodger Sherman proposed both of them.http://www.aaregistry.org/historic_events/view/three-fifths-compromise
